Durant Nature Preserve

Durant Nature Preserve was formerly known as Camp Durant, headquarters for the Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts. In 1979 the City purchased the land from the scouts and turned it into Durant Nature Park.

In 2010 the 237-acre Durant Nature Park was designated as a Nature Preserve with the goal of protecting and preserving the significant natural resources within this area and to provide natural resource-based recreation and environmental education experiences.

Durant Nature Preserve offers five miles of trails, a playground, picnic areas, nature activities and rental facilities. Program and rental information available by calling the park office. Free admission. Hours: Daily, sunrise-sunset.
